Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTiThe 10+ megapixel Digital SLR wars are heating up, and Canon has risen to the challenge with the EOS Digital Rebel XTi. This 10.1 megapixel beauty offers superb performance and ease of use at a very competitive price point.

The XTi's large area APS-C (CMOS) sensor captures stunning images at resolutions up to 3,904 x 2,598 pixels, making it an excellent choice for anyone with a need to create large poster-size prints. The sensor's size of 22.2 x 14.8mm gives it the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras - perfect for capturing super-sharp landscape images.

Canon's proprietary DIGIC II Image Processor employs sophisticated signal processing algorithms and works at greater speeds, while consuming less energy than others in its class. The company set a high standard when developing this Image Processor, and it shows in the clarity of the prints.

Canon has managed to pack a ton of powerful features into the Digital Rebel XTi's  small and light, yet sturdy case, one of the most impressive being the way it deals with every photographer's biggest nemesis: dust on the sensor. The XTi attacks the dust problem from two angles, making it unlikely that you'll ever have to worry about getting specks on your prints again!

Here is a rundown of the Digital Rebel XTi's specs:
  • 10.1 megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality
    18 x 24 inch poster-sized prints
  • Huge 2.5" LCD display
  • New self-cleaning sensor dust removal function in addition to
Dust Delete Data Detection in the included software
  • Canon's proprietary DIGIC II Image Processor provides fast,
    accurate image processing
  • Images are stored on Compact Flash (CF) memory cards
  • Uses Canon EF and EF-S compatible lenses
  • Canon EF lens mount
  • Lens focal length conversion factor: 1.6x
  • Image sensor type: High-sensitivity, high-resolution, single-plate,
    CMOS sensor
  • Pixels: Approximately 10.1 megapixels
  • Total maximum pixels: Approximately 10.5 megapixels
  • Aspect ratio: 3:2 (horizontal : vertical)
  • Color filter system: RGB primary color filters
  • Supported file formats: JPEG, RAW, and RAW+JPEG
  • Color Space: Selectable between sRGB and Adobe RGB
  • Interface: USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, mini-B port. NTSC/PAL connector
    for video output
Primary Advantage of the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi: It offers an excellent balance between features, functionality, durability, ease of use, and price.

Primary disadvantage: None.

Recommendation: This camera and the bundled EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens has produced some of the most stunning images I have ever seen. If price and performance are equally important to you, the Digital Rebel XTi deserves a serious look.
