Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10
With
the introduction of the Lumix DMC-L10,
Panasonic makes its
second attempt to gain a foothold in the lucrative Digital SLR camera market, a
task that proved to be quite difficult for their first DSLR offering, the
DMC-L1.
By choosing to outfit the 7.5 megapixel L1 with an incredible, but rather
expensive Leica zoom lens, they ended up with a camera that easily met
Panasonic's high standards of quality, but at a cost that was considerably
higher than many other DSLR's with comparable features and functionality.
The DMC-L10 could fare much better however. Panasonic decided to stay with a
high-quality Leica lens (the 14-50mm f/3.8-5.6 Leica D Vario-Elmar), but this
time around the excellent glass is much better utilized due to an outstanding
10.1 megapixel CCD sensor, and the combination creates super-sharp images that
are among the very best in its class.
The DMC-L10 also features a 2.5 inch "Live View" LCD display, automatic face
detection, manual color temperature settings, a very effective Supersonic Wave
sensor dust removal system and a host of other advanced
features.
With a "street price" of around $1300, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 is still a
bit pricey when compared to other DSLR's in its class, but this time around the
quality of the images produced this camera definitely makes it worthy of serious
consideration.
