The Digital Photography Book
By Scott Kelby
With The Digital Photography Book, author Scott Kelby has created a
unique resource that every beginning and intermediate level photographer should
purchase, read and keep in the camera bag right along with the lenses, filters
and other photography essentials.
Kelby's approach goes far beyond theory by providing the nuts and bolts details
you need to take great pictures with your digital camera under a wide variety of
conditions and situations. Much of the book is indeed dedicated to theory, but
there is just enough of it to enable you to understand why the practical
techniques and camera settings detailed in later chapters work.
I found the most useful part of the entire book to be the chapter entitled "Photo
Recipes To Help You Get "The Shot". This is a very accurate title because of
the way the information is presented.
Every page in this chapter features a different photograph
accompanied by a detailed explanation of how it was taken - which shutter speed
and f-stop were used, the time of day the photo was taken, whether flash or a
filter were used... In short, Kelby provides every pertinent detail on how the
image was captured. Even if you decide to ignore everything in the book except
for the "recipe" chapter, you'll still find it well worth the cost.
At just 219 pages, The Digital Photography Book isn't the largest
photography reference book on the market, but those pages are jam-packed with
nothing but practical information that you can use right away to start taking
better pictures with your digital camera. If you own a digital camera, this book
belongs in your camera bag.
