“Mother and calf”

Most of us enjoy looking at cute pictures of cuddly little puppies and kittens, but I believe there is beauty in most all of God’s creatures, not just the ones that we tend to keep as pets. Today’s picture by photographer Ruth Ann Joines shows that even cows have much more to offer us humans than just a great steak or juicy hamburger. She offers these words about the photo:

“This calf was just a few days old when this picture was taken, nature itself
teaches a mother to care for her young. This photo was taken on Old Saltworks
Road in Abingdon, Virginia.”

Wonderful and touching shot you have here Ms. Joines. Yes, there really is beauty in each of God’s creatures, even if we humans are unable to see it with our eyes.

  2. Emily Farnsworth says:

This is SUCH a great picture. I grew up on a farm in rural Iowa, and I always fell in love with our farm animals and simply hated to see them hauled off to the market. This picture brings back soooo many childhood memories.

  3. Amanda Yates says:

    Very nicely done.

  4. Lars Karlsson says:

I too grew up in “cow country” (Minnesota) and I still live here. I have never lived on a farm however. I can see how growing up around livestock would give one a slightly different take on the lives of the animals that we all take for granted and depend upon to feed our families. Wonderful photo – well captured.

  5. Mary Ingle says:

    Yes, a very touching shot.

  6. Wonderful image, Ruth Ann.

  7. Phyllis Helton says:

    I love it!

  8. Whether two legs or four – a mom’s love is the best!! Such a sweet picture.

  9. Great photo Ruth Ann. There’s beauty in all of nature and we’re very fortunate that Rick let’s us photographers share it here and remind one another.

  10. Kim Sheets says:

That’s my momma! She does a wonderful job sharing pictures of nature, her granddaughters, and loved ones. All of which are gifts from God.

I want to thank each of you for your comments, they were a blessing to me. I’m just a plain country girl who loves photography. And I took this picture on my lunch hour at a co-workers farm. And I love Rick’s website.

Sorry to comment so late. Ruth Ann, that is a fantastic picture and by the looks of that wet little face Moma has been washing it. Thank you for sharing !!!

  13. Shirley Meeks says:

Such an adorable picture! We used to have a farm and raised cows and I became attached to them; especially the calves. I even named them and they would eat sweet feed out of a bucket I was holding.
