“Frost & Fog”

Late autumn is the time of year when you just never know exactly what kind of weather you’re going to wake up to. Some mornings are foggy and damp, others are crisp and clear with a heavy coating of frost covering the ground. And sometimes, you wake up to a scene like the one in today’s picture.
Early this morning Cheria took the photograph pictured above not far from our southwestern Virginia home. As you can see, dawn broke featuring both a thick layer of frost and a thick fog, making for a rather remarkable photographic opportunity. We never really know just how the Creator will choose to paint His daily landscape, but we can rest assured that more often than not it will turn out to be quite nice to look at.
Here are the camera and settings used to capture this image:
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: 18-55mm kit lens
Focal length: 23mm
Shutter speed: 1/180 second
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 200

Brrr, it looks cold, but I love taking pictures when the air is clean and crisp like this. This one is really nice Cheria!!
Ron
Thanks Ron…Yep it was just a bit chilly. I had just got to work and was waiting to take pictures of the pets when I just decided to snap a few pictures of the scenery. Never thought any of the pictures would be near good enough for this site. All of you ‘real’ photographers just amaze me, so when Rick does use one of my photos I really feel honored. I have no idea what I’m doing…I just snap away because I enjoy doing it.
This really catches that early morning chill most beautifully, Cheria. Thanks for sharing the wonder of “right time, right place” with us.
Eerily beautiful!!!
Mrs. Rouse, I think most of us would agree that great skill, expensive photographic equipment, and adequate preparation will more often than not result in a great photograph, but it’s the end result that ultimately matters. Trust me, you ARE a “real” photographer – and this image is about as good as they come.
Beautiful picture Cheria!
Wonderful job on this one Mrs. Rouse! You did an excellent job at capturing both the chill and beauty of such an intriguing scene.
Awesome photo!!!!
