“Fuchsia”

I took this photo of a fuchsia in my mum’s garden. She is a keen gardener and most of the nice flowers that were growing in the summer are now gone, but when I took my camera outside to look for something interesting to photograph, I found them growing in a plant pot.
I had our local friendly stray cat trying to get my attention while I was bending down low to get the photo, and there was a gentle breeze so I had to wait in between the gusts for the perfect moment. I used a canon 50mm ef lens plus extension tubes to allow me to focus closely, using manual focus.
We live in the western isles of Scotland, it was a little dull when I took the photo. I used F4 for the background blur and ISO 1600 to allow a fast enough shutter speed to ensure sharpness. If you want to see more of my photos I have a smugmug http://buttonmasher.smugmug.com and I recently started a blog, www.gordonrossphotography.com.

Great shot Mr. Ross! My mom has fuchsias in her garden as well and every time I stop by I have to check them out. Just gorgeous!
Lovely picture today Rick. I think Mr. Ross has captured one of the most beautiful flower images I have ever seen.
Thanks Ed. It is a beautiful shot to be sure.
Beautiful colors!!!
Beautiful photo of the Fuchsia today Mr. Ross. Fuchsia’s have such brilliant color and you have done a very good job of capturing all of that color and detail. Very nice!

Mr. Ross has produced a real winner with this image. The “dull” day he refers to probably worked to his advantage as the lighting was soft and not contrasty (is that a word?). I often tell folks cloudy days are Nature’s Bounce Umbrella!
And Rick, the new format is quite attractive and should make navigation and commenting even easier. Good job.
Absolutely stunning!!!
