“Last Light”

Some days are good. Others, not so much. But either way, every day that we are alive is a precious gift. Of course we often wish that a good day would never end while a bad one tends to drag on forever, but either way, the very last rays of light from the setting sun are a sight to behold and gentle salve for the psyche. Good or bad, another day is drawing to a close, bringing to an end another page in the wonderful book known as life on planet earth.

Photographer J.C. Emmanuel took this striking photograph featuring the last rays of the sun after it had sunk below the horizon just past the Ohio River in Newburgh, Indiana. It was taken at approximately 7:05 pm on a beautiful summer day.

Here are the camera and settings used to capture this image:

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Lens: Canon 10-22mm
Focal length: 10mm
Shutter speed: 1/6 second
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100

J.C., this is an absolutely fantastic shot. The exposure is spot on and the large field of darkness surrounding the red glow of the setting sun really gives the image a rather wonderful contrast. Just looking at the large version of this pic relaxes me and takes me back to the days of my childhood when I would lie in bed after a long, hard day spent working out in the summer fields, watching the sun give way to a night filled with blessed rest. GREAT, GREAT JOB.

  4. This is a very simple shot with not a lot going on in the scene. Sometimes simple is best, and this is certainly one of those times. JC, this one belongs in a frame hanging on your wall.

Tim, I too remember witnessing witnessing plenty of gorgeous sunsets while working on our family farm as a youngster, usually on the long walk back to the house from the milk barn. JC, I ADORE this photo!!!!
