Remember all of those science fiction paperbacks from your childhood that featured drawings of planets and multiple moons filling the sky on their covers? Well, today’s picture is sort of like that, but unlike the images adorning those dime store paperbacks, this one is the real deal.
While orbiting Saturn late last year, the Cassini robotic spacecraft captured this striking image of the gas giant’s moon Tethys slipping behind Titan, another of its moons. If you’re wondering why Titan appears a bit blurry and out of focus while the distant Tethys does not, it’s because Titan has an atmosphere. Of all the photos I have seen of Saturn’s moons, I think I like this one the best.

Wow, another fantastic view of other worlds! I love these space images Rick. Please keep ‘em coming.
Amazing!!!!!
I devoured all of those science fiction novels back in my youth, and I always imagined that we would some day be able to take photos like that for real. We certainly live in exciting times.
Could someone please send me a camera to take a breathtaking photo like this, please?
Inspiring.
Inspiring indeed. What a wonderful photograph!
This is an incredible image Mr. Rouse. I just heard that NASA’s budget for manned space flight has been axed, cut out completely. I guess these “robotic explorers” are going to be our eyes on the universe for years to come.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
