From photographer Olly Yung: This was taken during a snowy evening at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in February 2013. It has been almost 8 years since it has snowed this heavily here so I grabbed my camera from the back seat without even thinking about what lens was on it and snapped this.
You can see more of my photography at www.audreyyung.com. Here are the camera and settings used to capture this image:
Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark 1
Lens: 50mm f/2.5 Macro
Focal length: 50mm

Olly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a landscape photo taken with a macro lens before, but I certainly love the results of this attempt! Awesome shot! I lived in Charlotte for 6 years and never saw a significant snowfall while I was there, but I saw plenty of black ice! Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo with us this morning!
This is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!
I love this! It just goes to show that it’s the photographer that takes great pics, not the equipment. High quality equipment (and using an appropriate lens) helps, but in unskilled hands it still produces snapshots instead of masterpieces. This is truly a masterpiece.
Nice one Olly!!
Beautiful capture! Love the colors and reflections!
I agree with Kim. A great photographer can take great photos with any camera. And this, my friends, is a great photo.
Awesome!!!!!!!!
Lovely!
Magnificent!
Looking at this photo, I feel like I am in the woods looking at this scene. For me it captures the essence of winter.
Good job!
Thank you for the wonderful compliments everyone! I appreciate it!
I love all of the color!!
