Picture of the Day - September 27, 2009
God will provide...

When God created the earth and the animals that would inhabit it, He
instilled in each of them the understanding that they would need to
build a home and a life for themselves and their families - and he
also gave them the "know-how" to get the job done. Sometimes the
little piece of the world that we humans have claimed for ourselves
can be shared with one of God's other creatures, and that can be a
very satisfying thing indeed.
Photographer Shirley Meeks recently discovered that her little
corner of the world is being shared with a dove, and by sending in
this picture she is allowing us to share it as well. Here is her
story behind the image:
"This is a picture of a dove who made a nest in one of my
planters.
She made it on the landing of my stairwell. When my son
was coming
home one night, going up the steps he frightened her and
she in turn
frightened him when she fluttered out of the nest. It
scared him so
badly he started laughing at himself."

What a wonderful picture Ms. Meeks. I love feeding the doves in my
back yard and I have several pairs of them living in the thickets on
my property. But none of them have been so bold as to attempt to
share my home. Lucky you!

The dove looks pretty happy sitting there. I had a starling build a
nest on my front porch and the little rascal wouldn't even let me
enter my own house. My husband finally had to run it off and destroy
the nest. I'm happy that your "tenant" is a dove instead. Nice job
on the picture too.

How cute!!!

Doves make wonderful semi-pets. Keep them fed and stay out of their
way and they'll hang around for a lifetime (their lifetime of
course).

What a 'chuckle' story, Shirley and even more delightful that the
dove nested there...Looks quite comfy and truly a sweet honor!
