"Aghadoe's View"

The beauty of "The Emerald Isle" is eclipsed only by her rich
history, and both of them work in tandem to make
Ireland one of the
planet's most popular tourist destinations. Having endured the
unimaginable hardships of the
Middles Ages, the
Great Potato Famine, and a long period of
intense political turmoil, the Irish people have overcome more than
their fair share of difficult circumstances over the centuries. But
through it all, both the beauty of their island home and their
collective never-give-up attitude have never waned.
We Americans owe much of our own rich history and culture to the
countless Irish immigrants who made their way to our shores over the
years. Today, you would be hard-pressed to find more than a handful
of communities across the American heartland that do not have at
least a few citizens of Irish decent.
Every year, the lush beauty of Ireland's landscape and the natural
urge to rediscover one's roots draw thousands of American's "back"
to her shores for a once-in-a-lifetime visit. They say "You can't go
home again", but for many of my fellow countrymen, paying a visit to
their beloved ancestral home is something they just have to do at
some point during their lifetimes.
About the photo: Photographer Magdalena Choroszy captured this
image featuring a wonderful view of the Irish landscape
from Aghadoe, in Killarney.
