Bear Mountain Bridge

Photo courtesy of Eric Ortner. Today's picture features Bear Mountain Bridge which spans the Hudson River in beautiful New York State. At the time of its completion in November 1924 it was the world's longest suspension bridge. Its sturdy architecture would eventually become the model for several of the great bridges of the world, including the magnificent Golden Gate spanning San Francisco Bay. In addition to bearing the traffic for two highways (US 202 and US 6), Bear mountain Bridge also carries the hikers following the Appalachian Trail through its New York section. What a view they must enjoy as they pause in the middle of the bridge and gaze up and down the valley! Today's picture by photographer Eric Ortner showcases the scenic beauty of Bear Mountain Bridge and the Hudson Valley, one of the most beautiful regions of our great country. Mr. Ortner was standing on the bridge's namesake Bear Mountain when he snapped the photo.     Visitor Comments...
