A gaggle of Canada Geese out for a swim

John Allen.
Today's picture by photographer John Allen features a gaggle of
Canada Geese enjoying a leisurely swim on a beautiful "golden pond",
a peaceful scene that reminds me of a not-so-peaceful experience I
had a few days ago...
Houdini and I were taking our morning walk when we happened upon a
huge gaggle of Canada Geese that had apparently decided to stop for
a rest in our creek. Since it was still partially dark and a little
foggy, we came up on them without knowing it. We suddenly became
aware of the geese' presence when they all took flight in unison, as
if on the command of their leader.
Let me tell you, the sound of approximately 50 Canada Geese (my
estimate, not Houdini's) taking flight at once, literally right in
front of you, will certainly get your attention, and it took both
Houdini and me several minutes to get our breath back! All in all,
it was quite an experience, especially since it's rare to see Canada
Geese still flying south this late in the season.
