Picture of the day -
November 13, 2007 Statues of "Don Quixote" and "Sancho Panza"

Photo courtesy of Gary W. Graley.
Today's picture features the bronze statues of two characters from
one of the most famous works of literature ever penned:
Miguel de
Cervantes' Don Quixote. Every year, a new "crop" of students from all over the world
become
familiar with the adventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, and
this pair of statues sitting outside Cervantes' Spanish home helps bring the
story to life. The following is photographer Gary W. Graley's story
behind the image:
"While at work here in Madrid, Spain, a coworker took me to visit
a
town just outside Madrid called Alcalá de Henares where the
famous
writer Miguel de Cervantes was born and is honored as
the city's
favorite son. This
image of Don Quixote and his servant
Sancho Panza was taken just
outside Cervantes' house. It was
captured with a Canon G7 digital
camera." --Gary W. Graley
Spain is a country steeped in history and culture, and a visit to
Madrid and the surrounding area is much like taking a trip back
through the centuries. If you ever have the opportunity to visit
this amazing land, be sure to stop in and say hello to these two
genial fellows - just don't expect much in the way of an answer!
