Picture of the day -
November 16, 2007 Horses grazing on a Chilhowie, Virginia farm

After a relatively short, but pleasant autumn, wintry weather
decided to make a sudden appearance here in the Mountain Empire a
couple of days ago. Literally overnight we went from comfortable
"sweater weather" to a windy daytime high in the low 40's, and
yesterday afternoon we were blasted by the season's very first snow
squalls. 2007 has been quite an odd year weather-wise, and I for one
am looking forward to the arrival of 2008 - and the possibility of
everything getting back to normal.
As I sit here listening to the bitter winds blow the remaining few
leaves from the trees outside our house, I find myself looking at
this little reminder of summertime that Mr. Joey Atkins was kind
enough to send my way...
Today's picture features several horses grazing in a pasture field
near the small town of Chilhowie, Virginia. Rural Smyth County is
farm country, and it is virtually impossible to travel along one of
her numerous country roads without seeing a scene similar to this
one. Rolling hills and grassy fields abound, and on a warm, breezy
summer day it's a real treat to just get outside and walk among
God's wonderful creations. But on a blustery day like today, it's
nice to have a photographic reminder of summertime - the time of
year when all seems right with the world.
