Clouds over Mount Rainier

Rebecca Johnson.
As one of the great peaks of North America,
Mount Rainier has been photographed countless times over the
years. Today's
picture features one of the most intriguing images I have ever seen
of Rainier, and the following is photographer Rebecca Johnson's
story behind it:
"I live in Washington state, and I took this photo on Saturday,
December 6, 2008. It is a photo of Mt. Rainier! I was coming
home
from the grocery store with my husband when we saw
these fantastic
cloud formations. Of course our cameras were
not with us...so we drove
home, ran inside, grabbed our
cameras and zoomed down the street,
where we have this
view. (Our ice cream was still frozen when we
returned LOL.)
I have never seen such cloud formations as these before!
I nicknamed
them halos, but the real term is lenticular clouds.
They're caused
when the air flow is just right so when it flows
over Mt. Rainier,
the air gets pushed upward where it cools
and condenses into
clouds. You will find more of my images
in
my Flickr gallery." --Rebecca Johnson
