Picture of the day -
September 6, 2007 A different
view of the Columbia River Gorge

Rosborough Photography.
The amazing Columbia River Gorge is one of the world's most beautiful and
intriguing natural features. Over the millennia the Columbia River
carved this deep canyon through the magnificent Cascade Mountain
range until it eventually "bottomed out" at sea level. The gorge
follows an 80 mile section of the border between the states of
Washington and Oregon and is up to 4,000 feet deep!
Countless photos have captured the splendor of the Columbia River
Gorge in recent decades, but in today's picture photographer
Aaron
Rosborough of
Rosborough Photography has managed to capture it from a
perspective that is quite different from what we're used to seeing.
Here is Aaron's story behind the image:
This picture is of the Columbia River Gorge just east of
Portland,
Oregon. It was taken at 7:45am, about an hour and a half
past
sunrise. Although it looks as if the framing of the picture is
a bridge,
it is in fact a small fence that surrounds the Vista House
at Crown
Point. The photo was taken with me lying on my stomach on
the
sidewalk facing out towards the vast gorge. I used a flash for
fill
light to bring out the detail in the archway of the fence.
