Early Crocuses In Bloom

Crocuses in bloom.

A few days ago I featured a hardy crocus that had popped up out of the leaves and snow in one of our flower beds. The very next day I received this beautiful photo from frequent contributor Winston Rockwell. It appears that his crocuses had quite a head start on ours! Here is his story behind the image:
"These little crocuses appear every spring in a corner of my front yard,
heralding warmer days to come. They open for a brief time, then close
up at night, and in a couple of weeks they're gone entirely, but after
months of cold, dreary, gray weather, the sight of those first purple
blooms is a welcome sign that spring is on the way...

    Taken with a Canon 30D and Tamron SP 24-235 lens at 135mm, 1/250 @ f8."

I know we'll be seeing a lot more colorful crocuses soon with the arrival of spring, and I'm always glad to see them after a long winter. I just hope ours turn out to be as beautiful as these!
