Dad's Fishing Holes

As an avid fisherman, my dad spent many hours sitting on the
banks of the south and middle forks of the Holston River in rural
Washington County, Virginia. He had several "favorite" fishing
holes, and whenever he had some free time he loved to jump in his
car and go throw a line into one of them.
Today's picture features one of his favorite fishing holes of all:
the middle fork of the Holston River at the bridge on Rivermont
Drive. Whenever you needed to find dad, he could often be found right here
sitting under a shade tree just waiting for the big one to bite -
and he usually came home with several "whoppers" dangling from his
stringer!
I remember how I used to drive down the country roads in our area
and see dad's car parked on the side of the road near one of his
fishing holes. Regardless of the time of day, if the weather was
nice he was usually somewhere fishing. My, how I miss those days.
Dad went to be with the Lord six years ago, and my drives through
the countryside have never been quite the same since. The places
where his car used to sit while he was fishing now look cold and
lonely and most of his favorite fishing holes are rarely used
anymore. But I believe that God probably placed dad's heavenly mansion on a
riverbank where he can throw out a line any time he wants - and I
can just imagine the whoppers he reels in up there!
