Two Deer Enjoying An Autumn Day

Today's picture takes us back to last fall when the leaves were very
colorful and much of the local wildlife was making preparations for
the cold winter ahead. Of course this fall and winter were a bit
warmer than normal until just a few days ago, but the cold
temperatures seem to have finally arrived in earnest.
The deer population here in southwestern Virginia is quite large
these days, and it isn't at all unusual to see our four-legged
friends foraging for food right out in the open. It was pretty rare
to see a deer out in the open when I was a youngster, but a growing
deer population combined with ever-diminishing habitat has forced
them to become more brave and venture into areas where they cannot
remain hidden from view. They have adapted well to the changes
brought about by us humans, and as a result we get to see them a lot
more than we used to.
About the photo: Nancy Davis and her husband enjoy taking
pictures in their spare time, including this one featuring a couple
of deer feeding on a silage bank during the fall when the leaves
were very colorful. This wonderful image was captured in the Cove
section of Wythe County, Virginia, and it won the editors choice
award from
