The Dixie Bee-Liners at the Virginia Highlands Festival

Since this is "Bluegrass Weekend" at the
Virginia Highlands Festival, Cheria and I decided to drive over
to Abingdon, Virginia yesterday afternoon and catch a show or two.
We already knew we would have a great time because our "favorite
fiddler" Rachel Johnson was scheduled to take the stage with the
Dixie Bee-Liners for
two performances, but little did we know just how entertaining the
afternoon would actually turn out to be!
The Bee-Liners kicked off their first set at 2pm, and within seconds
they had the large crowd applauding their outstanding vocal and
instrumental work. An amazing ensemble of fine singers and
musicians, the Bee-Liners always entertain their audiences to
the max... and yesterday's show was even hotter than the 95 degree
temperature.
As for Rachel...well, she was just Rachel. As always, she played her
fiddle and sang her parts to perfection, and during breaks in the
action she conversed with friends and family - and there were plenty
of both on hand!

In addition to the Dixie Bee-Liners, we also got to enjoy two
amazing sets by
Donna Hughes,
one of the fastest rising stars in Bluegrass. All in all, it was a
wonderful afternoon of virtually non-stop Bluegrass music of the
highest caliber. It sure was steamy under that tent, but the
entertainment was even hotter!
