Our New Friend, The "Spotted" Donkey

One of the things I love most about living out in the country is
getting to see lots of interesting and often unusual animals as we
drive past farms and through wooded areas. In the recent past,
Cheria and I have seen goats, sheep, llamas, chickens, ducks, geese,
cows, horses and many species of wildlife, but the other day we were
driving by a pasture field just down the road from our place when we
saw one of the most unusual fellows ever - a donkey that bears a
striking resemblance to a cow!
I stopped the car right in the middle of the road while Cheria
grabbed her camera to take a picture of the colorful beast,
but the fence made getting off a good shot virtually impossible.
Determined to get a decent picture of such an interesting creature, I backed up and pulled the car
into the short driveway that leads into the pasture field. We had no sooner
jumped out of the car, grabbed our cameras, and walked over to the
fence when Mr. Donkey just walked right up to us!
He was determined to stay right next to us, so we split up and moved
to different locations. We hoped that he would stay put somewhere
between us so we could take a picture or two. Well, it worked, and
Cheria and I were able to snap off several pictures each before
bidding our spotted friend goodbye.
All in all, it was a good day. The weather was nice for late autumn,
and we were able to make a new friend. I really love living out in
the country!
