Picture of the day -

"Droplets"

When it comes to art, abstracts have never really been my cup of
tea. I guess I must have a rather simple mind because I hardly ever
manage to grasp the artist's intent behind a mass of squiggly lines
and random splotches of color. Perhaps it's an acquired taste, and
for whatever reason that taste has eluded me quite well for the
better part of half a century?
And the same goes for abstract photography. I have seen many highly
popular images that quite frankly looked like something that
baby
Madison could easily capture while playing with one of those
"disposable" cameras. Simply let her whirl it around, gnaw on it a
bit, then toss it up into the air and see what you end up with after
she finally falls asleep!
Yep, when it comes to photography, give me a stunning landscape or a
touching portrait any day and save the abstracts for the museums of
the world. I know what I like, and it certainly isn't your average
abstract. Except, of course, when it's the "Picture of the Day"...
There was just something about this image that caught my eye when I
first saw it, and I can't really put my finger on it. It has all the
characteristics that make abstract photographs so unappealing to me:
random lines, no obvious focal point - in fact no "reason" for
existing in the first place. Yet I like it nonetheless.
The concept is simple enough: Simply spray some water on top of a
freshly-waxed automobile and start shooting. That's exactly what
photographer Paul Tonner did, and try as I might I simply cannot
manage to dislike this image. In fact, I like it quite a lot. Go
figure...

Hi Rick, I am with you. I don’t care much for abstract art, but
there is something about today’s photo that is very eye catching. It
really is a cool picture and I will be using it as my desktop.
