Picture of the day -
February 9, 2007 The "Duck
Pond" At Emory & Henry College

Although it was pretty cold outside yesterday afternoon, it was
still a very beautiful, sunny day here in southwestern Virginia.
While I was out running a few errands, I paid a visit to the campus
of Emory
& Henry College to take a few pictures. Several interesting scenes
caught my eye, but the one I liked the most is the one featured in
today's picture: Emory & Henry's duck pond.
Our region received a little snow a couple of days ago - about an
inch or less in most places. Most of it had already melted away by
early yesterday afternoon, but when I drove onto the Emory & Henry
campus I noticed that there was still a lot of the white stuff lying
around here and there. According to one of my grandma's favorite
"old sayings", when snow lies around in the shadows for several days
it is waiting for the next snowfall to come and join it!
The weather is a lot different these days than it was when I was
growing up, so I'm not sure if that old saying still applies. Even
though I don't like snow as much as I did when I was a kid, I still
enjoy seeing it from time to time. Hopefully we'll get a few more
snows before spring arrives, and perhaps the next time I visit Emory
& Henry it'll look more like a winter wonderland than a winter
"wannabe".
