Picture of the day -
April 8, 2007 Praising A
Spectacular "Sonrise"

I got up early this morning to take
Houdini on his morning walk, and
as we plodded through the frost along the creek bank I noticed just
a bit of bright orange light peeking over the horizon. The sun had
fully risen by the time we were ready to go back into the house, and
oh what a magnificent sunrise it was! In all my life I had never
seen one that was anywhere near as spectacular as this one. I wished
that I had taken my camera with me, but then I realized that there
was no way that a picture could ever capture the true glory of that
special sunrise anyway.
But you know, as magnificent as this morning's sunrise was, it pales
in comparison to the "Sonrise" that took place over two thousand
years ago when our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ arose from the dead
after His body had lain cold and lifeless in a dark tomb for three whole days.
On that first Easter morning Jesus completed the awesome job that
the Father had sent him down to earth to do 33 years earlier.
By rising from the dead, rolling away the stone and walking out of
His tomb, Jesus fulfilled His promise of taking away the sins of the
world. He had given Himself as the perfect sacrifice so that we
sinners might enjoy life eternal in His presence instead of the
eternity in a burning hell that we all deserve. Satan was no doubt
dancing a joyful jig while Jesus hung dying on the cross at Calvary,
but I can only imagine the fear and dread he must have felt when the
Saviour arose that morning from the tomb and defeated death, hell
and the grave!
Christians around the world celebrate Christmas Day every December
in remembrance of the holy virgin birth of Jesus Christ our Lord,
and rightly so. But we also need to understand that the spectacular
"Sonrise" that took place on that very first Easter morning was the
event that really gave Christ's birth its true significance. Had
Jesus not risen from that dark grave we would all be headed straight
towards an eternity in a burning hell, but because he arose in all
His glory we can now look forward to an eternity in the glorious
presence of God.
About the photo: This year's wonderful production of Damascus,
Virginia's "Easter In The Park" took place last Friday night, and
for the third straight year Cheria enjoyed singing in the choir at
the "Resurrection" scene. This year they sang "Arise, My Love",
a beautiful song of tribute and praise to the risen Lord.
