Egeskov Castle

For hundreds of years, the European continent was a very dangerous
place to live. In order to protect themselves and their fortunes
from invaders, the wealthy built and occupied fortified castles
which were often protected by water and/or tall, rocky cliffs. Many
of Europe's famous medieval castles now lay in ruins, but a relative
handful of them have either been preserved or restored.
Today's picture features beautiful Egeskov Castle which is
located on the Danish island of Funen. Egeskov is Europe's best
preserved Renaissance water castle, and today her buildings and
grounds house several of the country's most popular museums. The
main building was constructed with a double wall that is over three
feet thick which no doubt allowed it to survive down through the
centuries.
Photographer John Nyberg captured this gorgeous HDR (High Dynamic
Range) image of Egeskov Castle using an Evolt E-500 Digital SLR.
