Eilean Donan Castle

(Click on the photo for a larger view)
The British Isles are home to a number of stately old castles, each
of which is an important piece of the puzzle that is European
history. Often serving as both home and fortress, in times past
these magnificent structures dominated the landscape on which they
stood, and a select few still do even today.
Today's picture features one of the most well-preserved and oft
visited castles in the world: the spectacular
Eilean
Donan Castle in the highlands of Scotland.

This place is really cool. I went to see it a few years ago along
with a couple of Air Force buddies and it blew us away. It really
gave us a deeper appreciation of the UK's rich history.

As a perpetual student of world history, the old castles of Europe
really fascinate me. I just HAVE to visit the UK some day.
