Early springtime on the farm

Rick Rouse.
Down the road a bit from our house lies the scenic farm featured in
today's picture, and as I was driving past it yesterday afternoon I
couldn't help but notice what a difference the change of seasons has
made in its appearance.
First of all, the grass in the pasture fields has turned from
"winter brown" to "spring green", giving the cattle a little fresh
grass to dine on instead of their "winter diet" of hay. Also, if you
look carefully in the upper-center of the photograph you'll see a
pear tree that has cloaked itself in its spring costume of white
blossoms.
But the biggest and most welcome change was the way "Hog Thief
Creek" went from just a trickle of water to a swiftly moving
stream in the span of just a couple of days. Last year's drought
left our local farmlands quite thirsty, but a number of beneficial
spring rains has at least partially quenched that thirst.
A month ago this scene would have been very different from the way
it was yesterday, but the good Lord was kind enough to send us some
rain right when we needed it most. God is a merciful God, and He
sure knows how to transform a bland landscape into something quite
pretty indeed.
