First Snowfall Of The Season

A couple of days ago, the Abingdon, Virginia area received its
first measurable snowfall of the season. The snow only fell for a
couple of hours resulting in a total of about two inches of
accumulation, but that was enough to send virtually all of the
region's school kids home early and make the roads quite treacherous
to drive on. By mid-day we were enjoying the winter wonderland that
had been so elusive this winter!
After the snow stopped falling Cheria and I took our cameras outside
to capture a few images of the snow. She concentrated on the
beautiful winter scenery and ended up with several stunning pictures, but I
decided to check out this little fellow who was sitting patiently on
a stump in our front yard. We have a number of real live 'coons that
visit us from time to time, but this one dutifully stands guard near
our driveway, never complaining or getting into the garbage. And on
this winter day he ended up wearing a hat made of snow!
As for me, I just love watching the snow pile up higher and higher -
and I could care less which TV channel I watch it on. But every once
in a while I like to see a little bit of it in my own yard, and this
first snowfall was just about perfect... It came quickly, looked
magnificent, and melted right away the next day. If only all of our
snowstorms were like this one I wouldn't mind winter so much!
