Picture of the day -
July 20, 2007 Goats on a rock

It's a well-known fact that goats love to climb on top of things,
and I have seen the furry critters standing on top of haystacks,
fallen logs, farm wagons loaded with hay... and even a stool that
was sitting on a neighbor's front porch! Now that scene was just a
bit amusing!
Well, this morning Cheria and I were traveling down a country road
that we often take to get from Abingdon, Virginia to near-by Widener
Valley when we came upon a herd of goats grazing in a pasture field.
Being the curious fellow that I am, I slowed the car to a crawl and
slowly drove past them, trying to see what they were up to. And just
as expected, we saw at least two of the caprines standing on top of
a large rock, watching our every move as I pulled the car over to
the side of the road and walked over to the fence for a better view.
As I approached the fence, many of the goats came running over to
check ME out, but the ones standing on the rock stayed right where
they were as if to let me know that they were in charge of
that field - and newcomers were not welcome! But that's ok, I had no
intention of invading their territory anyway... I just wanted to
take the next "Picture of the Day".
