Picture of the Day - May 9, 2009
"Wet, Wet, Wet"

Today's picture combines the magic of a gorgeous sunrise with the
raw energy of ocean waves crashing into boulders to create quite a
stunning and unique landscape photograph. Nature can be very beautiful,
but it can be very dangerous as well - and quite often, as depicted
here, it is both at the
same time. The following is photographer Glen Bradshaw's story
behind the image:
"This was one of those really nice sunrises with the sea surging
onto
the rocks at Gonubie Point, East London, South Africa, where I
live.
I was set up on an outcrop of rock that juts out into the surf when
this wave approached. I was expecting some spray, but when I
realized the wave was not backing down I hit the cable button and
waited for the shutter click. Then I grabbed my camera and tripod,
tucked them under my jacket, and ducked. What followed was a
drenching, but luckily there was no damage to the equipment, just
amused onlookers in the parking area.
This was a lucky shot. One drop on the ND 8 grad filter would have
spoiled it. I hope you enjoy." --Glen
Bradshaw

Mr. Bradshaw captured an amazing photo of the sea surging onto the
rocks at Gonubie Point at sunrise. When I saw the photo I was eager
to see how he did it, and the story did not disappoint. He gave his
all to get the shot! Bravo Mr. Bradshaw. Thanks for sharing one of
those "once in a lifetime" photographs.
