Picture of the day -
October 8, 2007 Grayson Highlands State Park

The mountains of southwestern Virginia offer numerous opportunities
for enjoying spectacular scenery and outdoor activities, and one of
the most beautiful places I have ever seen is
Grayson
Highlands State Park in Grayson County, Virginia. Cheria and
I drove over there late yesterday afternoon to check out the fall
foliage, and while the colors weren't yet at their peak, we still
found plenty of colorful leaves on the trees.
Virginia's state parks are perennially rated among the best in the
country by their visitors. Unlike her sister parks, Grayson
Highlands is a mountain park complete with breathtaking mountain
and valley views, lush forests filled to the brim with numerous species of
flora and fauna, miles of challenging hiking trails and some of the
most relaxing camping amenities you'll ever find. If you love nature
and the outdoors, you'll find this amazing park to be as beautiful
and exciting as any you have ever been to.
Whether you come for a week-long vacation, a quick "leaf-peeping"
visit - or something somewhere in between, be sure to bring along a
camera and a light jacket. The mountains of Grayson County are
absolutely spectacular this time of year, and there is simply no
better way to enjoy them than by paying a visit to Grayson Highlands State
Park!
