"For He is risen..."

Matthew 28:6 - He is not here: for he is risen, as he
said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Perhaps more than any other, this verse of scripture brings joy to
the hearts of Christians the world over. For six hours our Saviour
hung on the cross between Heaven and earth, slowly dying in agony as
His precious atoning blood spilled to the ground below. Finally, His
work on earth completed, He uttered "It is finished" and gave up the
ghost. Just as when we sinners die, His spirit left His lifeless
body as it hung limp on the cross, then He was taken down and buried
in a borrowed tomb.
But three days later the most spectacular miracle in the history of
the world took place. On that glorious first Easter morning some
2,000 years ago Jesus' spirit re-entered that broken, lifeless body
and He arose from the dead. The massive stone that blocked the
tomb's entrance rolled away and Jesus emerged, triumphant over
death, hell and the grave.
For us Christians, Easter is the most important "holiday" of them
all because it celebrates the rise of our Saviour from the dead, the
monumental event that makes possible for all who choose to receive
it the precious
gift of eternal life. The saddest and happiest single days in
all of human existence were only three days apart, and today we
celebrate, honor and thank our risen Lord for His love, His supreme
sacrifice, and His endless grace.
