"Heroes at work"
Gordon Brugman.
Today's picture really needs no intro from me, so I'll simply "step
aside" and let photographer Gordon Brugman tell us about it:
"As a former newspaper photographer, I developed a deep respect
for the important and dangerous work our emergency personnel
perform
on our behalf. That respect was only deepened when a
fire claimed a
neighbors home just 200 yards down the road from
our home the other
night. The fire spread to the wooded hillside
and threatened to move
onto our property and perhaps claim our
home and others as well.
Working at midnight on a dark, wooded mountainside is difficult and
dangerous. But our local firefighters, assisted by forestry crews,
kept the flames in check and we suffered nothing more than a little
sleepless anxiety. I was reminded once again why I never mind
dropping a contribution into the boot when our firefighters hold
their road-block fund raisers. Bless them all." --Gordon
Brugman
