The Holston Mountain Boys
Every Tuesday evening during the summertime, the stage located
under the Country Music Mural at Bristol, Tennessee's Downtown
Center comes alive with the great Appalachian sound of Bluegrass music. The
bands that entertain the large crowds are typically from right here
in the Mountain Empire, but the quality of their pickin' and singin'
is on a par with anyone you'll find working in Nashville.
Last night Cheria and I had our first opportunity to attend one of
the
weekly events this season, and much to our delight the featured band
was the Holston Mountain Boys, a fine group of singers and
musicians from right here in Bristol! |

The Holston Mountain Boys: (L-R) Gene Boyd - Kevin Love - Bobby Love - Ray Johnson - Ronnie Rasnick - Rick Powers
For two non-stop hours the audience heard dozens of great
tunes ranging from traditional Bluegrass standards to old Pop,
Country and Gospel favorites performed with a distinctive Bluegrass sound. It
was quite an evening of quality family entertainment! |

Several dancers took the opportunity to kick up their heels when
the guys played their dance tunes - including a feisty feline dubbed
"The Bluegrass Cat". Also spotted out on the "dance floor" were the
lovely and talented Rachel Johnson and her grandfather Kenny
Morrell, both of whom are exceptional Bluegrass singers and
musicians in their own right. Rachel is Ray's
daughter, and Kenny is his father-in-law.

Cheria and I enjoyed our first Tuesday evening Bluegrass concert of
the summer very much, and we look forward to coming back again real
soon, hopefully on September 4 when Rachel and the
Stevens
Family Band will take the stage to round out the 2007 season!
And we'd love to see you there as well!
