Today's picture is quite special for a number of reasons, and I
believe it would be best if I simply let photographer Ron Trees tell
us about it:
"Spring is here and the Hummingbirds have returned to our place.
I look forward to them showing up every year and just really enjoy
watching them. They can be pretty feisty with each other which
make
for some good battles at the feeder. I would like this year
to try
to get some pictures with the hummers at a flower which
would be
much more natural.
Just about sundown, the feeder gets pretty busy as I think that
they
are filling up for the night. This is a great time to try to
photograph them as they seem to be a bit braver and willing to
come
closer to you. In this picture, I was using my Sony A700,
Sony 100mm
f2.8 lens along with some flash. It is a bit darker
than I would
like, but there is good detail still. These birds truly
are one of
Gods amazing little creatures. They are so fast and
getting one to
sit still long enough to get a picture is a real treat.
I hope that
you enjoy the picture. I took a few more at this time
and they can
be viewed
here.
As a side note, these little birds fly, and flying now always
reminds
me of my nephew,
Shaun Lunt, who died a year ago today while
flying his Piper Super Cub up in Alaska. I got the privilege of
flying
with him once and it was a great time. He is sorely missed,
but we
know that we will be with him again someday. I would invite
your
prayers for his dad, Norman, his mother, Margie, and his
sister,
Shelly today as I know that they will need them. Some of you
have
seen this link, but for those who have not,
this is a
link to pictures
that Shaun took the summer of 2007 on his first
trip to Alaska.
I know that Shaun would like to share them with you all. Shaun
had
the rare opportunity to be able to fly into some of the most
beautiful country in the world and did his best to share it and his
love for God at the same time." --Ron Trees

Great shot, Ron. Using the flash is a big help in “freezing” those
fluttering wings and you used it to great effect here. Thanks for
sharing this wonderful image.

Very nice photo Mr. Trees, and the tribute to your nephew was
wonderful.
