An Icicle Hanging From A Clothesline

If we take the time to really look around us, we can often find
beauty in the things that we usually just take for granted. For
example, how many times have you seen small icicles hanging from
tree branches, wires or other objects? They seem pretty ubiquitous
and mundane, right?
Well, today's picture shows just what we might find if we take the
time to look a bit closer on occasion. From even a short distance,
this icicle probably would look pretty much like any of the other
countless icicles that can be seen hanging everywhere during an ice
storm, but a closer inspection reveals that it contains dozens of
air pockets that give it a unique and rather interesting appearance!
To me, this photo clearly demonstrates that things aren't always as
they seem, and that every new experience offers us an opportunity to
see the world from a slightly different perspective.
About the photo: Photographer Jim Roper took this picture of an
icicle on the clothesline in his back yard during a recent ice
storm. He says he didn't realize that icicles had air pockets in
them until he uploaded the photo and took a closer look. Jim
captured this amazing image with a Panasonic FZ-7 with a Nikon 4T
macro lens attached.
