Snowy Illimani

Photo of a snow-covered Illimani.

How would you like to wake up to a view like this every morning? Well, you could if you lived in La Paz, Bolivia! The beautiful snow-capped peak featured in today's picture is the extinct stratovolcano known simply as Illimani.

Standing a dizzying 21,184 feet above sea level in the Andes range of South America, Illimani is one of the world's highest mountains, ensuring that it remains covered in deep snow all year long. In fact, the mountain's frigid northern face holds several glaciers.

The South American continent boasts some of the world's most diverse and beautiful landscapes, and Illimani is certainly one of the most stunning of the bunch. What a view!
