Picture of the day - November 2, 2008

"Jesse"

Photo of my nephew Jesse.

Today's picture is a wonderful example of what the average person can do with an inexpensive digital camera and a little spare time. My niece Lisa took this portrait of her grandson Jesse with a Canon Powershot A560 point-and-shoot while he was having a little fun rolling around in the grass.

Of course the photo isn't technically perfect, but that wasn't the goal Lisa was aiming for while she was taking it. All she really wanted was a good portrait of Jesse showing him having fun just being a little boy, and it turned out quite well indeed. I guess it just goes to show that you don't have to be a professional photographer with a sack full of expensive photography gear to take some great photographs. Great job Lisa!

That WAS a good shot Lisa took of Jesse. Thanks for sharing. Often when I turn my camera over to my daughter, who's just 9, I am amazed at how "simple" it is to take good pictures. It makes me wonder why I get stressed sometimes trying to get the "perfect" shot. It reminds me of how I got started - just for fun. Still is.

Yeah....Sometimes Rick gets upset with me because I just click away and get better pictures than he does. And he does all kinds of weird things trying to get a 'good' shot. I believe you can try too hard sometimes.
