"Respecting Ole Glory"

The vast majority of our men and women in uniform share one very
important quality, and that's a deep feeling of love and respect for
the American flag. Our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines
have served this great nation for centuries now with Ole Glory
flying overhead, if not in reality, at least in their hearts and
minds.
But their love of the flag isn't simply because it is so beautiful
and colorful. After all, it is really little more than a sheet of
cloth with some pretty stars and stripes embroidered on it. No, what
makes Ole Glory so special to the patriots who fight under her are
the truths and ideals which she represents. No other nation on the
face of God's green earth recognizes and respects our God-given
freedoms and liberty on a scale that even comes close to our own,
and the Stars and Stripes represents all that is good and noble
about the United States of America.
Our flag has been trampled under foot, burned, shot up, and spit
upon over the years by those who simply don't understand or
appreciate the way of life that she represents, and it pains me to
say that some of the offenders were American citizens who chose to
use the very freedoms that she stands for to desecrate and dishonor
her. But to the proud few who are willing to risk their all to
defend her, this beautiful flag is much more than just a pretty
piece of cloth. She is a symbol of everything that we hold dear. She
is to be treated with respect, and to treat her with anything less
while in our presence is a risky venture indeed. God bless America,
Ole Glory, and the men and women who lay it all on the line in their
defense. Happy Independence Day!

Well said, Rick! I hope everyone takes a moment between the
barbecues, fireworks and family gathering to remember what it is we
celebrate on this day. It is nothing less than the creation of the
country that remains the last, best hope for freedom loving people
everywhere.
