Large Tree Growing Out Of An Abandoned Truck

Photo of a large tree growing out of a truck.

A while back, my brother Glen told me about a long-abandoned delivery truck with a tree growing out of it that he and Tonnie had seen sitting in a Telford, Tennessee field. He asked if I would like for him to take a picture of it, and I said "sure". He did, and the result is the "Picture Of The Day".

In our neck of the woods it isn't at all unusual to see junk vehicles littering the landscape. Drive down most any country road and you're likely to see the rusting hulks of old cars, pickup trucks, school buses, farm tractors - anything that once sported a working motor - sitting in plain view of the highway. I guess some folks in our region just hate to give their old vehicles up, perhaps planning to someday "fix 'em up" or maybe "use 'em for parts".

In many cases that never happens. Those old vehicles just sit around in folks' yards and pasture fields rusting away while weeds, shrubs and trees grow up all around them. As a matter of fact, I know of a few neighborhoods not all that far from my own where the yards look more like "scrap yards" than lawns.

I've seen a lot of "junks" in my days, but this old delivery truck beats all I've ever seen. Right out of the hood - in fact right where the engine used to be - grows a rather large tree! The owner will be in for quite a task if he ever decides to haul this eyesore off to the junkyard. He'll have to either cut the tree off at the ground or dissect the truck and "peel" it back from the tree! Either way, it won't be easy.
