Kyoto's "Golden Temple"

Yen Khew.
The city of Kyoto was the capitol of Japan and home to the emperor
from 794 till 1868. Many beautiful temples and shrines were built
during that era, and a number of them are still standing today -
including the one featured in today's picture:
Kinkakuji (commonly known as the
"Golden Temple" and "Golden Pavilion").
Because of its prominent role in Japan's history, Kyoto was spared
from being the target of air raids during WWII, leaving
Kinkakuji and the city's other
historic structures unscathed. Traveling to Kyoto in the 21st
century is like going back a millennium in time!
Today, Kyoto is Japan's 7th largest city and one of Japan's most
popular tourist destinations, and the Golden Temple is a "must-see"
for all who come to visit.
About the photo:
Yen Khew
took today's picture on a hot summer morning in 2006. He actually
took a number of photos of the historic temple from several
different angles, but in the end he decided that this one did the
most justice to such a beautiful and unique structure!
