Picture of the Day - July 3, 2009
"Landscape of colors"

To me, most HDR (High Dynamic Range) images appear overdone and
"fake", but I have seen a few of late that were done to perfection.
In today's picture, photographer John Nyberg has "created" a
gorgeous scene that showcases all the amazing colors that God gave,
it enhanced to the max - yet the image is not so over-processed that
it appears unnatural.
What you're looking at here is the combination of five separate
photographs taken with an Olympus E-520. Fantastic job John!

While the “overdone” HDR has its uses in graphic art projects and
commercial special effects work, Mr. Nyberg shows that when used as
it was originally intended (to capture wonderful detail in all areas
of an image from light to dark) HDR can produce stunning images that
retain their “natural” look. Great use of the technique on a
wonderfully composed image, John!
Yes, truly magnificent!!!!

Excellent photo Mr. Nyberg!! I would whole heartedly agree with
Gordon and his comments about HDR. I am really staring to like HDR a
lot, but not when it is overused. I know it has its place, but I
like HDR when used to create what our eyes have seen. This is a really
great photo today and IMHO, the HDR process is just right!! I would
be hanging this one on my wall.
