Today's picture features a beautiful lionfish, one of God's most
intriguing creatures. But don't let those amazing colors fool you
...this is one fish that is better left alone by us humans. Here is
photographer Gordon Brugman to explain:
"When planning a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains you might
reasonably expect to get pictures of bears, elk, deer and the
occasional coyote. But you might be surprised to find denizens
of
the deep posing for portraits in the heart of land-locked
Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
The same Ripley’s folk who have for years brought you the
popular
“Believe It or Not” museums have built a state-of-
the-art aquarium
that has grown to be one of the most popular
aquariums in the
nation. Complete with a winding Plexiglas
tunnel that passes
underneath the swimming sharks and sawfish,
this popular tourist
destination features thousands of finny
residents ready to pose for
your camera.
This Lionfish is a dangerous beauty, with poisonous spines in
its
fins that can inflict a nasty sting. Originally a Pacific Ocean
denizen, the Lionfish is now showing up in large numbers in
the
Caribbean and poses a threat to the ecology of the area's
reefs."
