"Alone on a hillside"

Photo courtesy of Arjun Kartha. Today's picture by photographer Arjun Kartha features a lone tree standing on a hillside in Karnataka, India. It's a rather peaceful scene, similar to ones I grew up seeing quite often right here in southwestern Virginia. Every time I see a lone tree standing high on a hill, I'm reminded of the lives of us humans on planet earth. Like this solitary tree, we sometimes go through periods where it seems like we're all alone in a vast wasteland where there is no one around to help us through difficult times. But in reality we are never completely alone! Jesus Christ - the best friend any of us will ever have - is always walking by our side, ready and waiting to lend a concerned ear and a helping hand to anyone who is willing to ask for them. He is a friend like no other, and He will never leave nor forsake us. For a tree, standing alone on a hill is just fine. But for us, it can be pretty depressing. If you're wandering aimlessly in a wasteland of your own, you don't have to walk through it all by yourself.
