Low water on South Holston Lake

Photo showing the low water level on South Holston Lake.

Cheria's Uncle Bob and his wonderful wife Lorraine took a short drive down to South Holston Lake the other day, and what they saw when they arrived at the Painter Creek Marina surprised them quite a bit. Since our region is well into an extended drought they had expected to find the water level on the lake a bit lower than usual, but they had no idea that it would be anywhere near as low as it actually is.

Bob took several pictures of the lake while they were there, and I think this one best reflects the effects of the drought on one of our area's largest and most important bodies of water. Most of that reddish-brown soil you see in the picture would be covered with water during a typical year - but this is no typical year. If we don't get a lot of rain or snow this winter I look for South Holston to be pretty near dry by the time summer comes back around.
