Madison giving Houdini a kiss

What happens when a 20 pound toddler meets up with a 150 pound Great
Pyrenees? Well, in the case of our 18 month old granddaughter
Madison and our dog Houdini, it was love at first sight!
When we first laid eyes upon Houdini at our local animal shelter, he
was scheduled to be euthanized the following day if no one adopted
him. But not to worry - as soon as he stood up and put those massive
paws on Cheria's shoulders, I knew right then and there that we would
be taking him home with us. And so we did...
At first it was a big adjustment keeping a dog of that size in the
house, but Houdini settled right in and made himself at home. Well
actually, he sort of just took over the home as you can see
in this
previous Picture of the Day.
I must say that although Houdini has a wonderful disposition and a
heart of gold, the thought of him playing with the tiny Madison gave
us a bit of pause at first. But let me tell you, those two hit it
off like long-lost friends! They run through the house and play
together like two peas in a pod. I'm sure they'll be great friends
and companions for as long as the good Lord allows Houdini to be
with us before He finally calls him on up to his Heavenly home.

Hi--
I followed your
Photocamel username to your site (thanks for the comment on my
Looking Glass Falls photo, btw!) and I just LOVE this photo of
Houdini and Madison! And how wonderful of you to have adopted
him--and what timing. Clearly he was meant to be with you. I also
liked the photo of the white mountain sitting on the couch! We
recently got a mini dachshund puppy...I bet your huge dog is easier
than our 5-pounder! If we could just harness her energy, we could
run the house on it!
I look forward to returning to your site to see future POTDs.

What a sweet picture. Houdini looks like a great dog and it would
appear that Madison is pretty fond of him. Cheria, you got a great
capture here. Such precious memories down the road!
