October 16, 2007 "Quintessentially Maine"

Photographer Lee Brown submitted today's picture depicting a peaceful scene
that is quite common along the beautiful coast of Maine. The
following is his very interesting story behind the image...
"Although we have visited "New England" several times, this was
our
first visit to the state of Maine, and after a pretty poor
summer in
the UK we were eagerly looking forward to a good vacation.
Maine delivered everything we had wanted and expected, and more:
Lighthouses by the score, fabulous coastal scenery up and down the
peninsulas, some great fall colours as we headed across state to the
west, lobstah (as the locals say!), of course, and to top it all
off,
excellent weather!
As we headed up, down and along the coast we became aware of
a
specific design of easy-chair; they seemed to be wherever there
was
a good view point to be had, on any available porch, or anywhere
else for that matter! We soon learned that these are well known
"Maine Chairs"...
... and what better way to spend a lazy summer afternoon or
evening,
simply whiling away the time, relaxing with a long cool
drink, watching
the world go by or keeping an eye on the lobster
boats bringing home
dinner!
We spotted this pair of iconic Maine Chairs on the Orrs Island peninsula
south of
Brunswick, and it seemed to us to sum-up quite simply what
an ideal summer life in Maine should be all about: Quite simply...
