Picture of the day -
September 14, 2007 Kenya's Masai Mara National Park

Valerio Santarelli.
The image that comes to mind for many people when they hear someone
talk about traveling to the continent of Africa is one of a very
different, very hostile and extremely dangerous place, and for some
regions that is certainly true. But in many respects, Africa is just
like every other land mass in the world - most notably in the
variety and beauty of its scenery.
Today's picture offers a tantalizing view of Africa the likes of
which few westerners ever get to see. Photographer Valerio
Santarelli submitted this amazing photograph of a gorgeous Kenyan
sunset along with a little background information:
"I took this picture in November 2005 at 8:30 PM while visiting Masai
Mara National Park in Kenya. It was during a photographic
safari and
I took pictures of all kinds of wild animals. I used a
Canon EOS 350D
with a 70-300mm F4-5.6 lens, no crop, just a resize
to make the image
smaller. I'm an Italian photographer from Rome,
and these days my photographic setup is much better and the quality
of my pictures are
a lot better than this one."
Valerio takes natural,
portrait and sports pictures. You can contact him by
