Sunset At Mauna Kea Observatory

Photo of a glorious sunset at Mauna Kea Observatory.

Although Mount Everest is billed as the world's highest mountain, Hawaii's Mauna Kea is actually several thousand feet taller when measured from its base on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. And at almost 14,000 feet above sea level, this gigantic dormant volcanic mountain is the highest peak in Hawaii.

The famous Mauna Kea Observatory usually sits above the clouds, offering astronomers one of the clearest unobstructed views of the heavens that we earthlings can find without leaving the ground. And as today's picture by photographer Grant Hancock demonstrates, her visitors are treated to some pretty spectacular sunsets as well.

God blessed our wonderful planet with great variety in climate, weather and scenery, and beauty can be found virtually anywhere you go. But when He was creating the world's most beautiful scenery for all of us to enjoy, He was especially generous with the islands of Hawaii!
